JOURNALING📒🖊

Why do People Keep Journals?

Well, I’ll speak for myself. Journaling for me is about penning down God-given ideas, interesting thoughts that I might want to explore later. I also like to keep good memories, so I write about persons I have met that have contributed to my life or interesting events, places I’ve been to. In all, journaling helps me see that God has a track record of doing good and good only.

I started journaling when I was maybe 12 or 13 years old. I remember vividly the events that happened. My mom had just scolded me (you know African Mother’s kinda scold, slap would have landed on your face before you say ‘Jack Robinson’) and I seriously felt like I was being punished unjustly. Unfortunately, I could not fight for my ‘right’, so I took a notepad and just expressed myself. I wrote about how I would one day leave and not return, then they would all miss me in the house and wish they treated me better. Such childish illusions!😂

Here are Some Advantages of Journaling

1. It makes you a better writer. A drop of ink and gbam! Your story is ready.

2. When you keep a journal, you can always go back to your ideas. ‘The faintest ink, they say ‘is sharper than the sharpest memory ‘

3. Journaling helps you measure progress. When you write down those little breakthroughs, you’ll see that you are actually making progress.

4. Finally, it makes you stay focused. I cringed when I hear people say they have goals and those goals are not written down. Na wa o! Do you think we are talking about goalpost?

There are a lot of things to say about journaling but I’ll stop here. I’m starting to get bored with this motivational talk on journaling. I’m a story teller and luckily for you, I have a story to tell.

A while back, one beautiful creature of the Lord God sneaked around my things and read my journal. Imagine! You want to know how your girl felt? Exposed! I felt like someone had stripped me off my covering. This is where I say breeze have blow, fowl something have opened!

You know the interesting part, this Aunty had the nerve to ask me about things I wrote in my journal, that was how I found out she had been snooping around. It’s the confidence for me.

My journal is very personal to me. I write down thoughts, ideas that I never share with anyone. In fact, I write  crazy things in my journal. If I don’t write the crazy things, how will I have crazy stories to share with you?

Well, I finally moved on from that experience but not after having a heartfelt discussion with a senior friend.

My advice to you is that before you read someone’s journal make sure you are ready to take anything you find. Trust me you might just find out what the person thinks of you and it might be ugly! Really ugly!

There is a word called PRIVACY. Respect people’s privacy. Drink water, eat plantain and face your front! Don’t even look back!

Let me know in the comment section if you keep a journal. If you do, what do you mostly write about? Are you one of those people who only write down the names and addresses of those who have offended them? If you are, one more question for you, are you planning to become a serial killer? I mean why else would you be writing down such details if not to track them down and kill them?

If you’re planning to become a serial killer though, send me a message. I have a job for you to kill all the mosquitoes in my area. I pay handsomely.

  2. An interesting read. I penned down my thoughts into a journal when I started working officially in 2017. Read through it a few weeks back and had a good laugh. It helps in tracking progress.
    Thank you Naomi.
